72 yr old male....while doing yardwork, received minor scratches and scapes on both forearms, resulting in small, medium to large bruises. It s happened before and bruising went away, but today have rather large bruise approx. 2 1/2 in long X 1 1/2 to 2 in width....my wife (RN for 50 + yrs says they will go away, give it time)...can I treat at least the large bruise with ice or anything? Thank you, E.B.
Bruises are nothing but a condition of blood underneath your skin and subcutaneous tissues.
Nothing much to worry and it will settle by itself in one or two days.As a first line of management you can apply ice-packs for symptomatic relief.Generally it will settle in couple of days and you can consult a physician if bruises persist.
Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Shinas Hussain,
