How Does A Diabetic Manage Swollen Feet?

I m a type 1 diabetic with cerebral palsy. I use a power chair and spend my whole day in it except when I bike 5 days a week for 1/2 hour. I ve had swollen feet for a few years now, but this last week the swelling has become worse. I m on water pills which have kept the swelling under control until just the last few days. Other than elevating my feet and avoiding sodium, what else can I do? My A1C is always around 7.2 so I have excellent control there and my heart is in great condition. There s no pain in my feet and they are not discolored in any way. What suggestions can you give me to reverse this trend? I d so appreciate an answer! Thank you.

HI
I am Dr Mittal
I will try to answer your query

I have read your query
The fact that the swelling of feet causes a lot of trouble is appreciated.

First and foremost, the perfect HbA1C is around 6.5. However some doctors consider that too tight a control and prefer a looser control, say 7.

The swelling of feet, from your query seem to be less during the morning, and increasing in the evening. Now I have read you say that the heart is fine, but you have not mentioned what tests you did to confirm this. I therefore suggest an echocardiography as well to test this condition.
This may need diuretic therapy.

Alternatively, you may need to test KFT, thyroid profile and lipid profile as well.

Many mediciations also cause swelling. However, the query is silent about it. So I request you to give me more details on that front.

Please feel free to ask a follow up query.
Best of luck
