How Early Can HIV Be Diagnosed After Possible Exposure?

Hello Sir, I had an unprotected vaginal sex with a hiv positive partner, I was unknown about her status but later I came to know that she was hiv positive since 4/5 years ago, I was shocked and worried knowing that she was positive, I asked her about ART (Anti Retroviral Therapy) medication whether she takes regularly or not, She answered me that she has been taking ART since 2/3 years , But, still I ve a doubt on her that whether she takes medication regularly on not and i have got red spots on my penis head looks like balanitis , is this a symptoms of hiv ? and then, I got tested through NGOs clinic on 4th and 8th weeks after exposure and I got negative result on both test. -Should I still be worried ? -Can I test positive later ? -Accuracy of 3rd generation antibodies test after 8 weeks? -Accuracy of Rapid HIV 1/2 test at home ?

Hello,

You have not mentioned with which test you had investigated with HIV. After six to eight week of exposure investigates with more reliable test that is:

1. Fourth generation ELISA or
2. CMIA combo test

These tests detect p24 antigen as well gp41 antibody. So, investigate with tests and will help in rule out HIV more conclusively.

If you want to rule out HIV exclusively just now, then confirmatory test, western blot investigation for HIV can be done.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hello,

Third generation ELISA test and rapid test usually give conclusive result in most of patient after 6 to 8 week. But still it is better to investigate with fourth generation ELISA or CMIA combo test for HIV to rule out HIV more conclusively.

If you want to rule out HIV conclusively than western blot test is advisable, which is a confirmatory test. In few proportion of case HIV TEST can be positive after three month, so if western blot not done than investigate with HIV again after three month to rule out HIV conclusively.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
