Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
How Effective Is Bascom Procedure To Relieve Pressure On Coccyx?
Are you familiar with the Bascom procedure to relieve pressure on the coccyx area? What are your thoughts about its effectiveness? I generally do not accept that surgery needs to be a last resort. If it relieves my pain, disabilities, etc., and restores my function and life quality, I want that sooner rather than later.
I have studied your question and I think that you are having pilonidal sinus at your back. if it is having recurrent pus discharge and you have tried all antibiotics and dressing methods than you can go ahead with this. As it is a morbid procedure and you might need to be in bed for long time so we as surgeon try to delay this procedure. I would further like to add that it is not for pain relief if you are thinking. As it causes complete removal of all the affected track so it permanently removes any site of infection and so you can get rid of recurrent pus discharge. I hope this answer will be useful for you. Let me know if there is any other followup questions. thanks
