How Invasive Is A Food Bulous To Be Surgically Removed?

My 88 year old mother has been diagnosis end with a food bulous in her esophagus. The GI doctor said he can not touch it because it is so impacted. They called in a team of ENT doctors and they said their instruments are not Long enough to reach it by going down the throat. Now they are calling in a surgeon, how dangerous is this to remove by surgery? Is it invasive?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history of your Mother of 88 getting diagnosed with impacted food bolus in the food pipe that is esophagus, GI Doctor could not remove it, the ENT says that his instruments can not reach there hence called in the surgeon.
Yes, this is certainly dangerous to remove the food bolus but if this is a food bolus, it would have been easily removed by rigid endoscopy and suction after instilling soda-bicarb.
There is definitely a possibility of a mass or cancer at the site where the food bolus is impacted and hence endoscopy, biopsy and CT scan are mandatory to be done.
