Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am currently on medication for hypertension - and I am also taking hydrocodon-acetaminoph 7.5-325 for pain. I just took my blood pressure and it was 191/96 and my pulse was 70. I read that one of the side affects of the hydrocodon is extremely high blood pressure. My question is how long does this drug stay in ones system.
Hi! Welcome to HCM! Brief answer: The duration of action of Hydrocodon in the body is about 4-6 hours after wards it is eliminated. Detailed answer: Presently your BP is not controlled with the medications you are already taking. Besides you did not mention the indication for the use of Hydrocodon-Acetaminophen. Extremely high blood pressure is not caused by Hydrocodone. The reasons for the high blood pressure can be so many like non adherence to the treatment, dietary salt restriction is not being followed, body weight is not being controlled, Undue stress, etc. etc. Some time pain itself may increase the blood pressure. You are advised to consult your GP regarding the high blood pressure for further management.
