How Long Does Synthroid Take To Bring Thyroid Levels To Normal?
Extremely tired... I had the doctor check my thyroids recently because I am so sluggish and tired. The test results showed that I have hypothyroidism. The doctor said that normal levels are usually from 0.5 to 5.5, my results came in at 6.0. That doesn't seem to be that far off and I began taking Synthroid about 8 weeks ago. I am going back for a check up soon, but I haven't noticed a change in my energy levels. What level should I realistically achieve to make a difference and how long could it take?
Hello and welcome on HCM! I can understand your concern. Usually, after starting synthroid, it takes 4-6 weeks to change the TSH level and that is the period when we recommend to check if the dose given is the right one. In your case the underactive thyroid is unlikely to cause such a severe clinic. Anyway, check the TSH and if it is within the normal ranges under treatment, you should discuss with your treating physician to find another cause for your symptoms.
