How Long Does It Take The Stitches On Lips To Dissolve?

I got bit by a dog and have two different kinds of stitches in my lip... I think I heard the doctor say that the ones in my bottom lip are going to dissolve but Im not sure. They are hard and sharp and VERY uncomfortable. I have an appointment on Thursday to get (I believe) the top stitches out they are blue and very soft thread like. I was wondering if the ones in my bottom lip are supposed to dissolve how long could this take?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi, I'am Dr Suresh K Yadav MD (paediatrics), I had gone through your question and understand your concerns,

Stitches which are absorbable ( which dissolve ) are usually given deep in muscle and also may be subcutaneous tissue , stitches on skin are meant to be removed ( most of times . Absorbable sutures are meant to stay there for a long time ranging from 45 days to 3-4 months depending upon type of suture .

Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions

Take care.
