How Long Does It Take To Cure Lower Abdominal Swelling And Pain, UTI And Constipation?

Hello Doctor. I recently had a hemorrhoid. As the hemorrhoid began to go away, i felt immense swelling in my lower abdomen and pain. Then i got a UTI. I went on antibiotics for that. Once the UTI went away, there was only a sharp pain in my lower right quadrant left which persisted for days. Thinking that it was my appendix, I went to the ER. They took a CT and saw that it was constipation in my colon. They prescribed me miralax. I started miralax and had diarrhea. How long for the discomfort and full feeling in my lower abdomen to clear? How do I know if I passed the stool?

Hello,.

Although you have taken antibiotics for UTI, get a repeat urinalysis (R/S and C/S) done as you have pain lower abdomen. If infection persists you will be treated with a repeat dose of antibiotics. Drink plenty of water and fluids. Taking high fiber diet and adequate water will help in better bowel movement. You can take suppositories and laxatives to help better bowel movement.

Avoid red meat, full fat dairy products like cheese, food that causes constipation. Take raw and ripe papayas, prunes, oatmeal, cranberry juice, green vegetables, apple juice, etc. It will help to soften food and prevent constipation.

You can take PPIs, one stat after food to prevent bloating. Taking antacids will also help to prevent discomfort. If abdominal pain persists take Spasmol (spasmoproxyvon), one stat for relief. Take boiled food for a couple of days to detox liver and help better digestion and metabolism. You should get relief in 2-3 days.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
