How Long Does Knee Pain Due To Loose Grissle Take To Get Cured?

My son has just been to the doctor with severe pain in his knee. Said there is loose grissle and air bubbles due to too much sport. He is 14.has been referred to a sports doctor. How long will he have to lay off of sport for. He has a football match coming up in 12 days
