How Long Does One Live Without Food Despite IV Fluids?
I look after a 92 year old lady who has had one major stroke every year for the last three years. She has just had another one (her third), and she seems pretty out of it and not really aware of what is going on. She is refusing food although she is on a drip for fluids. I think her heart is quite strong, although she has a vascular disease in her head, plus the scans show she has holes in her brain from the other strokes. How long can she go without food? Currently the doctors are not trying to feed her.

Patient can leave for a week or two almost on iv fluid. Well here the case is different she is very old as well having too much of health issue with brain and vascular it so we can not say any thing specific. As per my opinion a week time she can survive but it also depends on her stamina and willingness to live. This is more important than the assumption what we do. Any way let's see leave it on the God and the doctors who are looking after her. I can't give any expect assumption since I have not seen patient built as well not seen her medical reports too.
