Circumcision is a painful process but it is done under local anaesthesi with or without sedation depending on your child's restlessness and your child will not feel the pain during the procedure. But once the effect of the anaesthetic agent goes off he will feel some pain.High doses of painkillers are given at least for the first 3-5 days to minimise the pain.In babies the foreskin usually heals in 7-10 days but in older children the total healing process will take maximum of 4-6 weeks.certain discomforts like irritation of the exposed sensitive area of the tip of the penis(glans) ,swelling, redness may persist for maximum of 4-6 weeks, but usually after an uneventful circumcision your child will be able to resume school after 1 week.
