How Long It Will Take To Get Cure From Pneumonia ?

Hi Doctor(s), My daughter is 14 years old was diagonised with RLL pneumonia (dense consolidation) about 4 weeks ago. Intially, she was treated by a local doctor and he gave her Cefaclor but it did not improve her condition after 10 days. So she was hospitalised for stronger IV antibitotics for 3 days and after that hospital paediatrician examined her and told us that she could go home and continue to take similar antibiotics but in oral form for 10 more days as her condition is improved but they still hear bronchial breath sounds and she needs to come back to for check-up at a later date. She finished 10 days antibiotics a week a go and I took her back to see local Doctor yesterday. My daughter has no temp and feels and eat wells over the last 7 days apart from dry coughing with wheezes sometime (not all the times). However, the local Doctor told us that there are no longer brochial breath sounds but he still can hear crackles on the right base and he thinks it may be part of resolving pneumonia process or consolidation is clearing up (as my daughter is well and has no temp), so he can hear phlegms / mucus and my daughter needs to cough them out. My questions are follows: 1. Is my doctor s advice is a fair / correct assessment (i.e is it part of resolving pneumonia process ) ? 2. How long on average will it take to clear pneumonia with dense consolidation as in my daughter s case ? I would greatly appreciate your valuable advice. Thanks.

Welcome to Healthcare Magic
Hearing fluid in the lungs suggests pneumonic consolidation and absence of bronchial breath sounds indicate response to treatment. She will need healthy diet, plenty of water. She can do steam inhalation to bring out all the mucous from her lungs and she can cough them out easily. It will take nearly a week or more for best comfort as long as she gets enough rest, no exposure to smoke, dust, pollution, proper diet and plenty of fluids.
