How Long Should Medications For Epilepsy Treatment Be Taken?

Hi, may I answer your health queries right now ? Please type your query here...hi doctor myself malvika from dehradun,i want to ask abt my younger brother epilepsy treatment from you.Right now he is 16 n he got this disease when he was 5.He is under the medicine treatment of navneet kumar,a famous doctor of iit kanpur.He prescribed the following medicines to him:ZEB RETARD 200 MG TWICE A DAY,VALPROL CR 400 MG TWICE A DAY N FRESIUM 15 MG 1 IN MORNING N 2 IN NIGHT.I just want to kow doctor how long will my brother taking this medicine?Will he be alriight in his life or not?Will he be able to live like all a normal life.

Hi, you have told that your younger brother is taking medicines for last 10 ys.
I would like to know about that you brother is seizure free or not.
If he is seizure free then EEG should be done .
If EEG comes out to be normal then antiepileptics can be stopped.
After that he has to take allthe precautions to avoid triggering factors for epilepsyand he can live normal life after that.
