How Long Will Effect Of Medication Last After Stopping?

I stopped taking 30mg of cymbalta and 20mg of prozac March 1, 2014, about 5 weeks ago. I have been very dizzy and I feel like there are constant knives in my upper abdomen that feel like gas. How long will this last and what can I do about it? Thank you very much, Melody, 58 yrs. old.

Hello,

Ok, it's a leap to say that every symptom one might have is associated with stopping a medicine. And, wrinkles, for example are going to be there regardless.

So, if withdrawing the medicine isn't the cause of the symptom it will continue a very long time.

Furthermore, if the medicines were doing anything, then stopping them will stop what they do and, for example, the return of depression will occur after stopping an anti-depressant and continue forever.

Cannot say in your particular case without directly examining your abdomen.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Matt Wachsman, Addiction Medicine Specialist
