How Long Will It Take For The Pain And Swelling Caused Due To Injury In Forehead To Subside?
I hit my head hard from a fall yesterday early morning which resulted in an 8cm deep wound on the right side of my forehead. It got stiched up and covered. The pain is unbearable and the right side surrounding the area and lower is busy swelling up. How long will it take for the swelling to subside and for the pain to reduce? The pain killers aren't doing anything. Thank you
Hello and welcome to HCM, A clean wound (wound without infection) takes around 7-10 days to heal. Pain will be there for couple of days. You need to take pain killers to control the pain. In case the pain is not being controlled by pain killers prescribed to you, you need to get it replaced by more potent pain killer or increase the dose of pain killer which you are using right now. But before doing that consult your treating doctor. Infection of the wound will result in increasing pain and swelling. You need to get the wound examined to look for any accumulation of pus. In case there is accumulation of pus, it needs to be drained. Antibiotic cover is also needed to control the infection.
