Hello
Your brother is taking metoprolol ,a beta blockers 50 mg .
The maximum dose is 200 mg twice in day .
This drug produces BRADYCARDIA ( decrease in heart rate ) and hypotension.
But if more than 300 mg taken as a single dose abruptly it may be lethal depending on duration of time i.e. if taken first time may be lethal but if patient is taking for long duration then may tolerate 300 mg also .
But overall more than 500 mg is lethal in divided doses ,other wise 300 mg in a single dose is dangerous for life.
As far as about removal , because it act within 1 hour but higher the doses , the longer the duration 4 to 16 hours ( removal period).
Good luck.
