How Much Time Does It Take For Alcohol To Metabolize?

I understand, in a general sense, that ETOH metabolizes in a rough equivalent of 1 drink per hour ( 1 drink = 1 beer, 1 mixed drink etc...). So, if someone took 3 shots in 10 minutes, it will still take roughly 3 hrs for the alcohol to metabolize. I am not really looking for how it would affect someone due to the long list of variables that would apply. My question is if the same is true for ingested meds, specifically opiates in pill form. Is there a general rule of thumb that applies there also? I know that there are a LOT of things that would affect this process. For the sake of this question, let s just assume that we are dealing with an average person with no significant applicable Hx. Thanks
