Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have come to the conclusion that in my older age (65) that I am developing a problem with anxiety. I still work and under high pressure environment, which I never used to do. I have Xanax, and I take it seldom, but have determined it could help me as I am becoming very emotional and over reacting to stressfull, or even potentially stressful situations. How much and how often should I take it? Or should I?
Xanax is an addictive drug and should only be used short term or occasionally. If you are only using it once or twice a week, you are probably okay. I don't recommend it daily. If you are having a lot of problems with stress and anxiety, it is best to discuss this with your doctor and see if there are better alternatives for you. Your doctor can also monitor your status while you are being treated. Hope this helps.
