How Safe Is Pregnancy In Females With Epilepsy?

Good day,

I am 23 Year old lady. I had epilepsy for the first time when I was 12 years old. The doctor gave me Epilim, after 5years he took me of the medication. I only had the on seizure. When I was 19 years old, I had another seizure, the doctor gave me lamictin 200mg once a day. I took the medication for about a year, then i slowly stopped taking them, and i never had a seizure again. Now me and my husband want to try for a baby, will it be save for me to get pregnant now?

During the pregnancy your body undergoes many hormonal and metabolic changes which could affect seizures in some patients. There is no certain way of knowing whether you'll be affected for better or for worse or perhaps not at all.
What I can tell you is that there are many women suffering from epilepsy who conduct successful pregnancies and there is no reason you shouldn't be one of them, even more reason to feel safe in your case since you are free of seizures.
