How Safe Is Taking Arava And Prednisone For Rheumatoid Arthritis?

I have been told that I have severe RA. I am taking .5mg of Prednisone to stave off symptoms. Every once a week I up the dose to 10mg. My Doctor wants to put me on Arava along with .5mg of Prednisone. What is the toxicity of the meds together? I refuse to give up my weekends enjoying wine, cheese, crackers, fine dinners etc. How long will I have to be on meds? My Dr. is worried I have about 10 years of good mobility left. I am confused... help!

Both these medicines are quite toxic. specially predinisolone should not be taken beyond 4 months as it will weaken bone and immunity and also causes other side effects like cataract or water collection inbody, There are much safer medicines like SAAZ and HCQ and methotrexate are more suitable for long time uses so try safer drugs.
