How Serious Is Removal Of Spleen Along With Surgery For Removal Of Growth In Pancreas?

A GOOD FRIEND HAD SURGERY TODAY TO REMOVE A GROWTH ON HIS PANCREAS . HIS WIFE SAID SURGERY went well, but they had to remove his spleen. How serious could this be? It seems like I ve always heard how serious and deadly pancreatic cancer is. However, they haven t mentioned cancer yet. TELL ME WHAT YOU CAN, PLEASE. CAROL

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi and welcome to HCM. Thanks for the query.
This is extensive and complex surgery and should be done only if there is tumor proved. Complications are common bot some serious ones are rarely seen and man can live normally after pancreas and spleen removal, just some medications should be taken for lifetime.
I hope I have answered your question.
Wish you good health. Regards
