How Severe Cubital Tunnel Syndrome

just wondering how severe cubital tunnel syndrome has to be for the doctor to suggest surgery. he told me yesterday i had it and is sending me for a emg next wed. to see how severe it is, then back to see him the week after.

Hi,

Welcome to HCM.

Cubital Tunnel Syndrome is caused by pressure on the ulnar nerve at the level of elbow joint.

To assess the severity of the condition Electromyography (EMG) and /or Nerve Conduction Study (NCS) are done.

If the function of the muscles are severely affected, then surgical correction would be required. Mild cases require only proper use of elbow, avoiding pressure on the ulnar nerve and the symptoms will be relieved.

Hi.. The surgical treatment would be decided if there is symptoms of weakness of the median nerve or based on the EMG reports... In the presence of either of these surgical treatment would be advised..

Hello and welcome to health care magic forum ,surgery is always the last option eleted by the doctor when the drugs no futher shows response and there is too much hindrance in doing the work of daily routine,take care

The know the severity u must go for NCV & EMG .
If the compression is mild you must try some medication, splinting along with physiotherapy, and look for alarming sign of surgery viz.- sudden muscular weakness, loss of sensation,skin discoloration before surgery.
