Hi,

It is not advisable to use emergency contraceptive pills without consulting a gynecologist. There is a high risk of withdrawal bleeding, breast tenderness, abdominal cramps, bloating, headache, and vomiting. Birth control pills like Nordette are really good at preventing pregnancy only if you use them correctly. Since you have already taken 4 active pills of Nordette within 22 hours of unprotected sex, take additional 4 pills of Nordette 12 hours later. Please bear in mind that high dose of these pills may cause hormonal imbalance as well.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
