In my opinion, possibility of viral infection is more in their case.
In general, viral infection is most common cause for
bronchitis. And incidence is ever higher in children.
Your both children got infection simultaneously. Viral infection is notorious to spread through aerosol route.
So all these points favour viral infection more.
But for 100% confirmation, you need to get done throat swab PCR for viruses. If this is positive then it is 100% viral infection.
You can also get done PCT (procalcitonin). PCT is marker for bacterial infection. So if it is negative then it is not bacterial infection.
