How To Cure Bruise And Swelling From Ankle After An Injury?
Today, I had 4 softball games and in the first game in my first at bat the pitcher threw a pitch that happened to hit a little bit above my ankle. I m pretty sure it hit a nerve because my foot was numb as soon as it got hit and eventually got the pins and tacks feeling. I then played 3 games after that limping around in pain. Now I can barley sleep, I feel like crying, my ankle is bruised and swollen, the pain is radiating into my Lower calf and my whole foot, and my foot is still somewhat numb. I am wondering if I should get it checked or wait for a week or 2 and see if it heals itself...
Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement, Dr. Saurabh Gupta's Response
Hi, Thanks for your query. From description it seems to be soft tissue injury . You need an x-ray to rule out any bony injury. I suggest you to consult an orthopaedician nearby for a detailed examination. You may get the X-ray of the area affected under his/her guidance. Beside icing and elevating it, you can take anti-inflammatory drug like motrin to reduce pain and inflammation.
I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query. Take care
