I'm trying to get answers for my father. He is 83 years old living in Arizona for the winter. He has a probelm with leaking and not having urine in his bladder when he goes to the bathroom. He has a little stinging when he does go with a slight tent of reddness in urine
Hi, Your father seems to be suffering from urinary continence. Hopefully, he does not have any urinary tract infection. You need to get a urine examination to check for pus cells to rule out urinary tract infection. Urinary incontinence increases with age and can lead to social isolation, infection and skin damage. It results from inadequate closure of sphincters. Usually adult diapers or pads along with education, self-monitoring with voiding diary, timed voiding and pelvic muscle exercises. Pharmacological therapy is available and are proved to be effective. You can take prescription from your doctor. Any further queries, happy to help you. Dr. Prakash HM
