Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My father was found to have a PSA of 90 (he is 86 yrs old) last month. His cancer has come back this last year, before that he was pretty much within normal range the last 8 years. He already was treated with radiation for the spread of his cancer to his pelvic area (only the concentrated areas) about 5 months ago. It seems some of his lymph nodes are affected but we are due to see a lung specialist in the next two weeks. What are some of the things I should keep in mind to ask the doctor. I am assuming his cancer is T3 at this point, and he does complain of pain in his back. I welcome any guidance you can offer.
Thanks for your question. I am Dr Asanghanwa Carlson. A PSA value of 90 is abnormal as it is higher than the normal value of less than 4ng/ml of blood. Given the fact that he is followed up for prostate cancer, that could signal the progression of his disease which might require chemotherapy. I would advise you see an Oncologist so the treatment is well organised depending on therapeutic options which are available. Good luck with that and I wish him a quick recovery.
