Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 5 and a half month old hasn t eaten for almost 12 hrs. Every time I try to feed her her bottle she screams as if in a great amount of pain. She screams when I put the bottle nipple in her mouth and stops when I take it out. There is no way she is not hungry. What should I do?
I understand your concern. Right now my thoughts are that she has some oral ulcers or throat pain which makes her scream when you put the bottle in her mouth. Try giving her formula with a cup and spoon, as the spoon will only touch the lip and need not be thrust in like a bottle. If this method doesn't work, I suggest you see a pediatrician because young infants need feeding quite frequently. Warning signs: 1. Not peeing atleast once in 6 hours 2. Irritability even when you are not trying to feed her 3. High fever (Temp > 102F) 4. Refusing to feed even with cup and spoon
If any of the above are present, take her to the pediatrician right away. Hope this helps and she feeds well again. Take care!
