Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I recently got into a bare knuckle fight. I ended up hitting the opponent in the back of the head. Almost instantly, my hand began to swell up (not too much, but about knuckle height) the day after I could flex the pinky finger. However, extending it caused a minor pain. It's been 3 days since the incident, my hand is beginning to lose the swelling and the pain is slowly beginning to go away. Is my finger broken? Or is it just deep bruised? I feel pain in the fleshy part of my palm (nearest the pinky finger) once I apply pressure.
Based on your description, you are diabetic. As the pain and swelling are coming down, it could only be a minor soft tissue contusion/ injury. Ice fomentation and rest to the part is recommended. If the pain or swelling increases or pain getting aggravated on movements of fingers or if you have difficulty writing or lifting weights it is to be worried, otherwise rest to the part for a week is recommended.
