How To Improve My Bowel Movement With Drooping Kidney Function?

Hi - I have been experiencing some bowel trouble. My stool is hard, but it seems to come out in small round balls. I have been on a vegetarian diet (at the urging of my nephrologist because my kidney function was dropping significantly). At first, the veggie diet was wonderful. My stools were good and regular, but over the course of six months, my stools seem to be dry and hard and come out in balls about the size of a ping pong ball. Do I have anything to be concerned about? I had a colonoscopy last year and everything was fine. My recent blood work up (I have lupus) was excellent.

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Colonoscopy would have ruled out any significant or dangerous changes to the bowel. The fact that you had this procedure only a year ago means that there are not likely to be any dangerous lesions in your bowel.

The consistency of the stool is influenced mainly by diet. You may want to consider increasing your fluid intake to see if this decreases the hard nature of the stool. The use of dairy products may also help.

I hope this helps
