Hello,
You are suffering from mucus in the throat. It can be indicative of
acid reflux, infections, allergies, asthma, etc. Medical conditions like
common cold, COPD,
bronchitis,
cystic fibrosis may cause production of excess mucus in the throat. It can also be due to low consumption of water and other fluids, dry environment, high consumption of fluids that can lead to fluid loss, such as coffee, tea, and alcohol, effect of certain medications, etc.
Avoid
smoking, alcohol or addictions if any. Avoid irritants, fragrances, chemicals, and pollution. Take adequate water and fluids. Get clinically examined by a physician, get all required blood tests, swab tests, sputum tests, imaging tests done so that the pathology can be detected and treatment started at the earliest.
For relief you can take expectorants, such as
guaifenesin (
Mucinex). Steam inhalation may help. Gargle with salt in warm water. Using humidifiers may be helpful. You may need a course of antibiotics, it will be given to you after the test reports come. In the meantime, take home made food rich in protein and minerals. You will gain weight once the pathology is treated.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
