How To Improve Weight And Growth In A Child With Complete AV Canal And Moderately Leaky Valves ?
My son is 2 weeks old and has a complete av canal with moderately leaky valves. He has become more tachycardic in the last 2 days despite lasix. He is not eating or gaining weight. They want to wait till he is 2 months old to do surgery if possible. What can be done to help him gain weight and grow?

Unfortunately there is a little to do. The problem is in the heart and it has to be corrected. You have to give small amounts of food many times a day not to give too much load to the heart. If the baby is not gaining weight maybe it is better to go on for surgery earlier.
