How To Know If The Medical Abortion Is Complete ?

Hi! I had a medical abortion last night. At around 10.30pm I inserted cytotec, at 3am I started to bleed and got diarrhea, saw small clot at about a size of a strawberry.. Then after that I had 1 soak pad for bleeding.. I just wanna ask, is my abortion complete? Because I'm worried if a pity material is still in ther which would result to infection.. please help...

Hello,

Thanks for writing to us.

Upon taking cytotec, vaginal bleeding with clot and abdominal cramp will continue until product of conception is expelled out.

After that, light bleeding may persist for next 7 days to resolve completely. You should maintain genital hygiene properly.

Post pill abortion, you must undergo one USG lower abdomen to check retained bits/ conceptional products if any. It will confirm whether abortion is completed or not.

In few percentage cases, D &C may be required to evacuate uterine cavity and complete abortion process.

Practice safe sex by using safe period/ OCP/ other methods to prevent unwanted pregnancy.

Hope, it helps for you. Be well. Good luck.
