How To Manage Ileus And Abdominal Pain Following An Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) Repair?

My husband had illius following AAA repair. He was given barium enema which seemed to help somewhat. However, four days after the procedure, he is not having normal bowel movements and has abdominal pain. Stool is now just a clear gel like substance. Any suggestions?

Hi,

Thanks for writing to HCM.

Ask your doctor to prescribe levosulpride or any other prokinetic drug for the ileus. That will relieve the pain also. Preferably ask for a combination with a ppi.
