Diabetologist 's  Response
Hi, welcome to our site. I am Dr Saumya Mittal.

Read your query. That is a very significant question and i appreciate your problem. I will try my best to answer your query

I think you need to look into the medicines you are getting. You are on oxygen. Now from the query I am not sure why you are on oxygen. But it is likely to be a chronic condition and not an infection, since you are fit enough to count your calories.

I am guessing in the other medicines you are getting, there is a possibility of you being steroids. Steroids are commonly used medicines for chest conditions.

Side effects of steroids are many. One that may be pertinent to you is hyperglycemia caused by steroids. The steroids almost always increase the sugars, and more so in diabetes.

Suggest you talk to your treating doctor. I would probably reduce the dose of steroids if possible. Else I would change the dose of insulin you are on

I hope this helps you. Inform the reports mentioned above so i can be of help further. Best of luck.

I have given you the answer to the maximum considering the information provided. The results of the tests could further enhance my answer to you.

Please do understand that some details could be extracted from a detailed history and examination.

Looking forward to your return query with the details asked so that I can help you further.
