Hello and welcome to HCM,
Low platelet counts can occur due to destruction of platelets or decreased production of platelets in bone marrow.
Thus, consultation with a hematologist will help to determine the cause of low platelet counts.
A bone marrow aspiration may be required to look for status of platelet pre-cursors on bone marrow.
A chronic hepatitis C infection is unlikely to cause low platelet counts.

Thanks and take care
