How To Overcome The Respiratory Virus And Fluid In The Inner Ear?

I am a 41 year old white male who exercises prodigiously - marathoner, etc. Approximately 2 months ago I started lightheaded, dizzy spells which I attributed to an upper respiratory virus and fluid in the inner ear. It failed to resolve after 3 weeks so my gp prescribed azythromycin. This seemed to work on the respiratory/sinus problem but I still had the dizziness. I went back to my gp and he instructed me to take a otc antihistamine to dry things up. I took two days worth and during this time I received a flu shot, which I get every year and have never had a bad reaction. The day after the flu shot I felt awful and unlike I ever felt before. Nothing specific just rotten. The next day was fine and I exercised as normal, etc. The day after that I did so cardio in the morning and that evening at I wedding the awful feeling return more intense. So much so that I thought I would pass out. My wife took me to the ER. The ran an ekg, blood and urine and found nothing. The did check my thyroid, too. After about 2 hours I was released to follow-up with my gp. They are running more blood work and I am due to have a stress test this week. The one symptom I have not relayed to them because I thought it was simply musclular pain was I am experience random painful pulse-like pains in my left, lower abdomen/pelvic area. I have not taken any meds/vitamins/supplements for a week. I am on no medication. My pulse rate is usually in the 60 s but has been in the 50s. My bp has been lower than normal but not abnormal for my physical condition. Since the ER visit I get these episodes where I am kind of weak, on edge and feel faint. Eating seems to help, though they say I am not diabetic. Thank you in advance for any suggestions...

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

It may be due to chronic suppurative otitis media. For further assessment you may require complete hemogram, discharge culture after ENT consultation. You may require antibiotics after consultation. Continue steam inhalation. Keep your self hydrated. For pain you can take tablet acetaminophen.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shyam B. Kale, General & Family Physician
