short answer : chest congestion is because of his lung infection or influenza detailed answer: the drug you are using is an antibiotic it must be used with the consultation of your treating physician only. it may be due to pnemonitis pneumonia upper respiratory tract infection pulmonary tuberculosis bronchitis influenza most probably as it is seasonal. if he has frequent such episodes i advice to take a chest x-ray and show it to your treating physician for a better approach. over the counter buying of medications are not advisable .it will cause resistance to the antibiotic. hope this explains with regards Dr.Amarnath
