How To Reduce The Side Effects Of Metformin?

my friend is supposed to take metformin but refuses to do so because he doesnt like the belching. The smell and taste is aweful enough that he refuses to take the medication as prescribed. He understands that over time the side effect may go away but getting him to even take the meds once a day is a chore. is there anything he can take or do so that he can become more compliant?

Hello,

Some suggestions that I can give are:
- Take your metformin with a meal. You're less likely to experience problems if your stomach is full.
- Switch to extended-release metformin.
- Be careful with dietary changes and supplements. Avoid food that can trigger the symptoms.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
