How To Stop Children From Sucking Or Licking The Lips?

Hello, I have a 5 yr old daughter who is constantly sucking or licking her bottom lip. Its red and inflammed. She gets to the point where she ll stop for a little while and then start back up again. This started in March and its now July. I m really frustrated and out of ideas. I ve tried everything and I mean everything. Her pediatrician told me to let it go...I can t do that. It looks so bad. I m always putting some kind of ointment on her face or always reminding her to stop doing it. Please help me.

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Most likely she will out grow this with time, and we need not worry much. Constantly reminding her and offering reward for abstinence might offer some help. Behavioural intervention also can prove helpful, for which you can take her to a child psychologist.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
