How To Treat CIPD?
Hello, CIDP stands for chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy. This is a neurological disorder characterized by progressive weakness and impaired sensory function in the legs and arms. Treatment consists of corticosteroids (e.g. prednisone) prescribed alone or in combination with immunosuppressant drugs. Your father already did plasmapheresis (plasma exchange) and intravenous treatment (immunoglobulin IVIg). Although no good response, he needs to run physiotherapy. It will help improve strength, function and mobility, and minimize the muscle weakness. To rule out other types of neuropathy EMG (electromyography) and NCS (nerve conduction ) studies are highly recommended. They will show demyelination. Discuss this further with his neurologist, and ask to hire physiotherapist. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
