Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
hi

thanks for your question

most paediatric orthopaedic surgeons in North America are now using the Ponseti technique for the treatment of club feet. this involves 4-6casts, one per week, followed by a heel cord tenotomy in the clinic and a cast for 2 further weeks. boots and bars are the applied full time for 3 months and then worn at night until age 4. at age 5 around 50 percent of children require a tendon transfer.

the results of this technique are excellent in 80 percent of children. 20 percent will require additional surgery.

I hope this information helps.

best wishes
