How To Treat HIV As Came In Contact With It?

I am a junior doctor sir.. i came into contact with hiv blood. at that time i have a small 24 hour injury which is 1cmx1cm injury on my right middle finger. i am not sure whether blood came in contact with that wound. I started system exposure prophylaxis with zidovudine and lamivudine at 13th hour of exposure and taking tablets 2 per day. I m using them regularly but on 15th day i missed two doses, and continued later... whether i m on safe side or not as i missed to take tablets on 15th day. Today is my 20th day of drug usage.

Hello,
Thanks for the consult...

Detailed Explanation,
1.You mentioned that whether you are exposed to hiv blood on the cut surface of your middle finger and started ART in the form of Zidovudine and Lamivudine on the 13th hour after exposure to the risk. It is best to started with in 2-3 hours after exposure to risk
2. There is a very mild chance to the risk of hiv because you started late for the prophylaxis and also missed on the 15th day. Even after the prophylaxis there is a mild chance of blood infected with hiv
3. As now it is around 19th day beter you can undergo the procedure called RNA polymerase test which usually gives the result with in 1-3 weeks of risk exposure. This test directly identified the presence of RNA nucleic acid in the HIV.

Hope this information helps
