How To Treat A Throbbing Pain And Swelling Caused By Prep Testing?
I had a ct scan with oral and intervenal contrast, during the prep we had problems getting my IV in and in the scan room the tech flushed saline to make sure it flowed properly, but it burned extremely and hurt so bad up to my shoulder, the tech said that the contrast would hurt a little more because it was thicker, but when he pushed it through it blew the vein and my arm swelled so big and the pain was extreme with burning and throbbing pain.. they told me to put heat and compression on it and to see a doctor if it got worse.. my arm is twice the size of the other and the pain is still bad, feels like it could explode what should I do? help???
Hi. Indeed you should see a Doctor. Too much swelling can interfere with the circulation and can cause other problems. he pain will be more if the vein or the catheter had a dye in it. I would advise you to try painkillers. Lye down and elevate the arm fully up in a loose sling. It should be above the heart level. This will help to reduce the swelling as well as pain.
