How To Treat Acid Reflux Issues?

What can my husband to for this acid reflux-related problem? He doesn t want to take PPI s. At dinner, he started burping after a few bites of food and then mucus came up into his mouth. He coughed it up in the bathroom, and it came up again. It s been about a half an hour of mucus coming up. This happens about once a month. Other times he burps at the beginning of a meal and is able to take a sip of water and diffuse it.
