How To Treat Back Pain In Lower Spine L-7 And L-8?

I have back pain in the lower spine L-7 and L-8. The pain is intolerable. I am now taking tramador 50 mg every 12 hours. No effect. Is back surgery the only way to get rid of the pain? Had an injection of cortisone yesterday, and it still is very painful. Can you suggest what I should do?

Hello and welcome to HCM,
Pain in the lower back at the level of L-7 and L-8 needs to be investigated to find the cause of pain,
Pain in lower back can occur due to disc protrusion or disc prolapse, compression of spinal roots, etc.
I suggest you to consult an orthopedician for clinical assessment and MRI to assess the status of inter-vertebral discs to rule out disc prolapse and the spinal nerves for any kind of compression.
In there is inter-vertebral disc protrusion, rest will be required to allow the disc to replace to its original position.
In case there is compression of spinal nerves, the cause of compression will have to be removed.
Treatment of underlying cause can only relieve the pain.

Thanks and take care
