Hi there,

Thanks for your query.

Contraction (tightening) of the Piriformis muscle causes compression over the nerves of legs.

Try to avoid the posture (sitting and lying) which triggers the problems. This is achieved by trial and error method.

Other conservative management includes rest, ice/heat compresses.

Further, use of anti-inflammatory drugs (such as, ibuprofen) + muscle relaxants (such as Chlorzoxazone) may relieve the symptoms.

Alternatively, if there is no relief, local injections of steroids, anesthetic agents or Botox into the muscle are helpful in relieving the stretched muscle and thereby decompress the nerves.

Surgery may be required as a last resort.

Consult your doctor and apprise him of my opinion. I am certain that he will agree with me and will prescribe the advised drugs in appropriate doses.

If you find my response helpful and informative, do not forget an “excellent” (5-star rating) to my answer, to ENCOURAGE ALL doctors- engaged in social service- to render sound advice to the FREE queries.
