How To Treat Bipolar Disorder In An Alcoholic Person?

my husband is bi polar. He is supposed to be taking Epitol and lamotrigine. He has not been taking them (I counted the pills). He is angry all the time. He is also an alcoholic. When he is drinking he will text myself or other people incessantly. I have been dealing with the alcoholism for 28 years, the bi polar only for a couple years.Should I contact his physician and let her know he is non compliant with his medication? I don t know how much more I can take.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

I understand your concern and would explain that considering his situation, it seems that his current therapy is not effective in controlling his symptoms. For this reason, making some changes to his current therapy may be needed. I recommend discussing with your GP on the above tests.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
