How To Treat Chronic Constipation?

I am a 24 year old female with intermittent lower back pain radiating to the legs since several yrs. My MRI shows central disc protrusion at l4l5 an l5s1. I also suffer from chronic constipation and have developed an anal fissure. My free T4level is at the lower range of normal but my T3 and TSH values are well within the normal range. I have also been diagnosed with PCOD. Is constipation related to IVDP? I am taking Syr lactulose 15ml BD. Is that enough?

Hello dear

Warm welcome to Healthcaremagic.com
I have evaluated your query thoroughly .

* The constipation is not related to disc protrusion issue .

* Taking laxative is not the remedy , you need to re establish the gut
rhythm with specific measures , so that you do not become dependent
upon laxative onwards .

Dietary measures to be considered are :

Drink plenty of liquids .
Consume high fiber diet with more of green leafy vegetables , whole grains , cereals , legumes , pulses , organic fresh fruits .
Avoid excess oil , ghee , butter , dairy products , non veg stuffs till possible .

Life style modifications to be considered :

Regular walking , exercises , YOGA are must .
Avoid prolong fasting , over eating .
Manage timings of breakfast , lunch , dinners till possible .
Chew your food very thoroughly .

Avoid stress , anxiety .
If consuming alcohol , tobacco in any form has to be stopped .
Manage to have regular sound sleep of 7 - 8 hours .
Keep your blood sugar , cholesterol , weight under control .

Medicinal support can be obtained with :

Bulk forming laxative as Isphaghula husk in glass of lukewarm water instead of lactulose as per advise of your doctor .
Evaluation in form of necessary ultrasound , colonoscopy may be demand of time according to the response to treatment and clinician concern .

Hope this clears your doubt .
Wishing you fine recovery .

Welcome for any further assistance .
Regards take care .
